Tein ensimmäiset valokuvapohjaiset fantasiakuvat Kemiönsaarelle vuonna 2015 rakennettuun päiväkotiin. Aulaan tehty 8 metriä pitkä teos on nimeltään Metsä.

 

Metsä on mielikuvitusmaa, unelma salaisesta paikasta jättiläispuineen, ikiaikainen ja joka on saanut olla rauhassa järkähtämättä tuhansia vuosia. Olen halunnut kuvitella, millainen olisi metsä, jos ihminen ei olisi siihen kajonnut. Millainen oli Eurooppa, silloin kuin sen peittivät valtavat setripuumetsät? 

 

Metsä -teoksen puut on kuvattu Japanissa ja niiden puulaji on sugisetri. Puut ovat 800 -1200-vuotiaita ja ne ovat suurin piirtein oikeassa mittasuhteessa ihmisiin nähden. Suurimpien puiden ympärysmitta on yli 11 metriä ja korkeus noin 50 metriä. Puut ovat saaneet kasvaa valtaviin mittoihinsa koska japanilainen luonnonuskonto, shintolaisuus, varjelee niitä. Puiden pyhyydestä kertoo mm. puun ympärille kiedottu riisioljesta punottu tupsuin koristeltu köysi shimenava, jonka tarkoituksena on paitsi merkitä pyhä alue myös pitää pahat henget loitolla.

Yksi puista on Doda -nimisen suvun yamanokami. Sana ”yamano” tarkoittaa vuorta ja ”kami” henkeä tai haltijaa.  Eli puu on vuorenhaltija. Tällaiset  haltijapuut ovat paikkoja, joissa voi pitää yhteyttä luontoon ja luonnonhenkiin ja myös menneisiin sukupolviin. Samanlaisia haltijapuita on joskus ollut myös Suomessa  –  joskaan ei yhtä suuria.

 

Metsässä seikkailevat  Aapo, Axel, Emilia, Essi, Iina, Ingrid, Inkeri, Ilmari, Janina, Josphine, Josefine, Juho, Krista, Madeleine, Siiri, Tove, Tuuli ja Viivi. Seuranaan heillä on lintu, koira, kummituseläin ja apina.­ Metsässä on myös haltijaolentoja. Yksi niistä on oikeassa reunassa oleva vihreäviittainen hahmo, suomalaisten vanha metsänjumala Tapio.

 

Metsä-teos on koostettu viidestäkymmenestä eri valokuvasta, jotka on kuvattu vuosien 1995 ja  2009 välillä. Teoksen miljöö koostuu seitsemästä erillisestä valokuvasta ja loput 43 kuvaa ovat siihen muovattuja yksityiskohtia. Idea teokseen, samoin kuin ensimmäinen luonnos työstä, syntyi jo vuonna 2010 ja se valmistui vuonna 2015.

Tein Silvaan myös 5 muuta teosta päivähuoneiden liukuoviin. Sen jälkeen olen jatkanut kuvien tekemistä jalostaen niistä pienempiä vedoksia.

I did the first photography-based fantasy-images to a daycare center in Kimito Island in 2015. The work done to the lobby is eight meters long and called “A Forest”

A forest is a fantasy world, a dream of a secret place with its’ towering trees, everlasting and one that has remained in place, peacefully for thousands of years. I wanted to picture a forest, left untouched by the man. How would the Europe look like when it was covered by giant cedar trees?

 

The trees featured in ”A forest” have been photographed in Japan, and they are a species called “sugisteri”. The trees are 800-1200 years old and in the work, approximately in the right scale compared to the humans. The biggest trees have a girth of over 11 meters and height of around 50. The trees have been left alone to grow to such gigantic measurements because of the Japanese religion “Shinto” protects them. The holiness of these trees is for example marked by a tussled rope made of rice straw called the “shimenava”, this rope has its’ meaning in not only marking the holy area, but also keep the bad spirits away. 

 

One of these trees is a “yamanokami” of the Doda – species. The word “yamano” means mountain and the word “kami” a spirit or a elf, thus making the three the sprite of the mountain. These sprite 

trees are places in which one can stay connected to nature and its’ spirits, as well as to the passed generations. Similar trees were once too found in Finland, - though not as large ones. 

 

The explorers of the ”A forest” are; Aapo, Axel, Emilia, Essi, Iina, Ingrid, Inkeri, Ilmari, Janina, Josephine, Josefine, Juho, Krista, Madeleine, Siiri, Tove, Tuuli and Viivi. Keeping them company they have a bird, dog, tarsier and a monkey. There are also elf like creatures wandering in the forest. One of these is in the right corner, a green caped character, The old forest god of Finland “Tapio”.

The work ”a forest” ia an assembly of 50 different photographs taken between 1995 and 2009. The environment consists of seven individual photographs and the last 43 pictures are embedded in it as details. The idea for this work, so as the first draft came to be already in the year 2010. The work itself was finished in 2015.

​

To the daycare “Silvia” I made five other works to the sliding doors of the day rooms. After that I have continued the work making smaller images.
